Battalion Chief Head began his fire service career as a volunteer
firefighter with the Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in 1996.
Chief Head left full time Emergency Nursing and joined the ranks of
Mountain Brook Fire Department in August 2004, having served as a
Firefighter/Paramedic, Apparatus Operator, Lieutenant, and now Battalion
Chief. He continued to work bedside in the ED as well as serve as an
adjunct clinical educator in the metro hospital environment for many
years. Chief Head holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science from Columbia
Southern University and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Jefferson State
Community College. He also holds specialty certifications as a Tactical
Paramedic and Flight Paramedic through the International Board of Specialty
Certifications. He also holds numerous professional certifications such as
Fire Instructor I & II, Fire Officer I, II, & III, Fire Inspector, Fire
Investigator, multiple disciplines of technical rescue as well as an
instructor for the American Heart Association in the areas of Basic Life
Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
He also served as an instructor for the Emergency Nurses’ Association
teaching the Trauma Nursing Core Course and Emergency Nursing for
Pediatrics Course.
As EMS Chief for Mountain Brook Fire Department, Chief Head is responsible
for all operations in the Emergency Medical Services that MBFD provides.
This includes public health, supply chain and resource management, training
and education, Quality Assurance, community emergency preparedness, revenue
streams and reconciliation and billing.
