Waste and Leaf Pick Up Schedules

 

Mountain Brook AL Wednesday/Saturday Route Change Finder:

Amwaste is eliminating Wednesday/Saturday pick-ups to improve operations and customer service. Starting Monday, March 25, 2024 if you are currently on this route, your pick-up days are changing.  In order to balance routes, some households currently on either the Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday will also be reassigned.  Affected residents should receive by mail a postcard from Amwaste informing them of their new service days.

To find your new service days, you can click the link below and follow these instructions:

  • Click the link to the interactive map and search/enter the address in the bottom left corner of the map, using the magnifying glass icon. 
  • Select the address, which will be pinned on the map. 
  • Select or “click” on the colored area next to the pinned location and the new days of service will appear in the top left corner of the pop up.

To find your leaf zone and pickup dates, type in your address in the search bar (UNDER Leaf Schedule Map. CLICK HERE). Click the - to zoom out to see your zone. Click on the outline of the residence with the dot on the property and then click (click here to view). This will pull up zone schedules.

Instructions to use map: 

      Type your address in the search bar and press enter

      Click the parcel/property that you searched to open a pop up window.

      Your Zone # will be at the top of the pop up.  

       In the pop up, click the image of the leaf schedule or "Click Here to View."

 

 

Effective October 1, 2022:

Amwaste will be your new solid waste, recycling, debris, and bulk trash service provider. Waste is collected twice a week under this contract. The first collection of each week is transported to RePower South and sorted to to separate recyclables from waste. Second collection everything will be taken to the landfill. Backdoor service is no longer a standard service. If you would like to have backdoor collection, and have not already signed-up for resident paid elective service, please request on the home page mtnbrook.org at the bottom of the page click the Amwaste truck. Old Trash Carts:  Amwaste will dispose of the old containers during their collection routes, if the residents will either place in the carts or leave notice it is for disposal. This should be done with the second collection of the week. 

Important Notes:

  • Amwaste carts will be provided for your collections
  • Bag loose garbage to minimize fly-away litter during collection and limit unsanitary cart conditions.
  • Please have your cart out for service by 6:30 am on your scheduled days. Cart should be positioned with the arrows on the lid facing the street and three feet or less from the curb. Do not place carts on: sidewalks; storm drain covers; gutter; steep slope; elevated platforms; under low-hanging utility line/ obstruction (tree limbs) or six feet of fixed object (mailbox, hedges, parked vehicle, ect.)
  • Please place small limb piles or bagged yard debris in cart, space allows, for collection on second pick-up of the week.
  • It is no longer necessary to separate recycling and garbage. You may place all materials in the same bag for collection on the first service of the week.
  • If you have chosen to receive the elective backdoor service, please place your cart in area that can be located by Amwaste personnel.

 

Problems with Garbage, Trash, Bulk or Recycling Services

Holidays For Amwaste

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day 

During a holiday week, if your collection day falls on a holiday, you will only receive pick-up one day that week. There is not a make-up day for the holiday. 

 

Bulk Collections:

  • Only homeowner generated materials will be collected.  All contracted work must be hauled away by contractor or use of a roll-off dumpster for construction/reno projects generating significant debris.
  • Knuckle Boom Services will continue to be serviced  Monday- Friday schedule.
  • There is NOT a designated bulk trash pick-up day. Submit a request for pickup of large piles of yard debris/ bulk trash at  https://tinyurl.com/5xfc28tn.
  • Cut limbs into lengths no longer than Six (6) feet.
  • Small amounts of loose debris should be bagged and placed in cart for the second collection of each week. If it can't be bagged, place small piles next to cart for pick-up. Submit a pick-up request of 10 bags or more.
  • Bag all grass clippings.

Materials Accepted

Rolled carpet, glass doors,(glass must be broken and put in a cardboard box, alkaline, manganese,and carbon-zinc batteries, fluorescent bulbs, household amounts of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, broke down moving boxes, packing materials bagged, appliances (refrigerated require a freon removal tag issued by a certified technician) and mattresses.

Materials Not Accepted

Construction debris, blocks, bricks, concrete, piles of dirt, tile, tires, more than household amounts of hazardous waste, car batteries, large car parts, landscape and railroad ties,medical waste, needles, animal carcasses.
