In the weeks following an October fatality crash on Montclair Road, Mountain Brook Police Detectives conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Their investigation revealed the following:
On Saturday, October 12, 2024 at approximately 1:30pm, Mountain Brook Police Officers and Fire Department Personnel responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 3900 block of Montclair Road. Officers arrived and observed what they believed to be a single-vehicle crash in which the driver was ejected. He died a short time later at UAB Hospital. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office previously identified the driver as Robert Ashley May, Jr., 33-years-old of Birmingham, AL. As officers interviewed witnesses at the scene of the crash, it was revealed a second vehicle was involved and fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival. It was later determined the second vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and engaged in dangerous and reckless driving that contributed to the crash. Mountain Brook Police Detectives worked diligently to identify the second vehicle and driver. The case was presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday, November 14, 2024, and the following warrants were issued:
Hannah Gray Williams, 30-years-old of Birmingham, AL
Reckless Manslaughter (13A-6-3)
Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries (32-10-1)
There will be no further information released in this case.
