Citywide Native Tree Giveaway Scheduled for November 24

The Board of Landscape Design (BLD) for the City of Mountain Brook announces a native tree giveaway for residents on November 24. As a part of its designation as “Tree City USA”, the city will make available, at no charge, 200 trees on a first come, first served basis at two local garden shops.

Starting at 9 am on November 24, residents can obtain one tree per household at Leaf and Petal in Mountain Brook Village and Oak Street Garden Shop in Crestline for free. We will have 100 trees at each location. The trees available will be red maple (acer rubrum), a deciduous tree that is fast growing and tolerant of many soils.

In observance of Mountain Brook being a “Tree City USA” locale, the annual tree giveaway by BLD was originally scheduled in April and postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Annually the City observes Arbor Day with a tree giveaway to encourage citizens to plant native trees on their property.

About The City of Mountain Brook Board of Landscape Design

The Board of Landscape Design, comprised of seven citizens appointed to three-year terms by the Mountain Brook City Council, supports the city’s efforts to maintain and sustain Mountain Brook’s community forest. Well-managed trees are a vital part of the community and enhance the quality of life in the town. The goal is to have trees that are safe, healthy, well placed and attractive, on both city-managed and private property, through the use and advocacy of professionally accepted arboricultural practices. We hope to accomplish this through special events, coordination with the city council, city employees, civic organizations, private businesses, professional associations, and other statewide entities.
