Mayor, City of Mountain Brook

Mr. Welch was born and raised in Mountain Brook, Alabama, where he went through the Mountain Brook school system.  He then attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and upon graduation, returned home to begin his career which included building a nationally recognized fee-only financial advisory firm serving clients throughout the United States.  In addition to being an entrepreneur, Mr. Welch has authored several books on personal finance.  Mr. Welch has served on the boards of both local and national charities, and he is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham. He and his wife, Kathie, have been married since 1980 and reside in the Country Club Gardens area of Mountain Brook.  His first foray into politics was as Mayor of the City of Mountain Brook where he took office in November 2016.

When the City of Mountain Brook was founded in 1942, there was one fundamental reason behind that incorporation – to provide the basic services needed to maintain a productive, healthy lifestyle in the community.  Eighty-plus years later, that principle still resonates the philosophy of your mayor, city council, administrators and civil servants, each of whom works diligently to ascertain that the residents’ needs are adequately served.  Your city officials are aware of the need for current information to keep our residents informed about what is going on in the city.  Using the most current technology available in delivering that information has been our goal. To better stay informed, join our text message system by texting MOUNTAINBROOK to 91896 on your cell phone.
