Chief Stanley joined the Police Department in May, 1976 and has been at the top spot since 2001.
The Chief is a graduate of Samford University, the FBI Southeastern Law Enforcement Executive Development Program and the FBI National Academy.
Chief Stanley is active in the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program offered by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. Of over 325 police chiefs in Alabama, he is one of the few who have been recognized by the Commission as a Certified Law Enforcement Executive.
Chief Stanley spent many years in competitive shooting and represented the Police Department in events each year. He has tied three national records and has twice been the Alabama State Champion. Also, for twenty-five consecutive years, he was a member of the Alabama Governor's Twenty which recognizes the top twenty law enforcement shooters in the state each year. While no longer competing, he is still a certified instructor in multiple firearms types.
