Dana Hazen brings 21 years of planning experience to the City of Mountain Brook, beginning her career in 1986 as a Planner for the City of Newport Beach, California, then joining the planning staff of Jefferson County, Alabama in 1999.  Dana began work for Mountain Brook in 2007.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Ecology, with a specialization in Environmental Health and Planning, from the University of California, Irvine in 1986; and her Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating with academic distinction in 2007.

Dana has been a member of the American Planning Association’s Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 2000; is a member of the Alabama City County Management Association (ACCMA), a member of the American Society for Public Adminstration (ASPA), and a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.

As City Planner for Mountain Brook, Dana is responsible for the overall operation of planning functions.  She provides staff support to the City Manager, City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment and the Village Design Review Committee, processing development and subdivision proposals as well as maintaining and updating land use plans, zoning maps and zoning regulations.
