Chief Cohen began his career with the Mountain Brook Fire Department in 1984 as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

He received his paramedic certification in 1978. Chief Cohen received an Associates Degree in Fire Science from Jefferson State Community College and a Bachelors Degree in Allied Health Administration from the University of Alabama Birmingham. He holds 14 State Certifications from the Alabama Fire College including Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector III, and Fire Investigator.

As Fire Marshal, Chief Cohen’s duties include public safety education, fire cause determination, blasting ordinance supervisor, fire inspection and code enforcement in all new and existing buildings (except single family residences), as well as plan review for all new construction (except single family residences) to assure compliance with the appropriate fire and life safety codes.
