The Building Inspections department strives to provide the best possible service to our residents to assure protection of life, health and welfare in the City of Mountain Brook by enforcement of City codes and ordinances.
The Building Inspections department assists residents with all aspects of home improvement, remodeling and new construction projects. We assist contractors in obtaining City licenses and necessary permits. It is the responsibility of every contractor, plumber, electrician, heating and air contractor and irrigation contractor to obtain a permit before they begin work in the City of Mountain Brook. For your protection, we suggest you verify that your contractor has a permit to assure your project will be inspected for Code compliance.
Inspectors: Office hours will be 6:00a.m. until 4:30p.m. Monday though Thursday. Calls to schedule an inspection will be taken from 6:30a.m. until 8:00a.m.
Licensing and Permits: Administrative offices are open from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
One-Stop Development Guidance
Come chat with key city officials for preliminary feedback on your new business or multi-family proposal. Officials in attendance each Monday morning consist of the Fire Marshal, the Building Official, the Revenue Examiner, the City Planner and the Zoning Administrator. Guidance given may pertain to Fire/Life Safety Code, Building Code, Licensing, Zoning Code and Design Review. Appointments are encouraged (contact Tammy Reid, 802-3810 or email@example.com). Appointments will be given priority; walk-ins are on a first-come-first-serve basis. Meetings are from 8-9am on Monday mornings in Room A231. Construction drawings are not required, but bring any preliminary plans that may illustrate the design intent and facilitate discussion.
